Ranked Mode and Season 1 arrive
Ranked Mode launches with Season 1 running until October 7th, adding subranked badges, pre-game hero selection with swaps, three bans per game, and new abandon rules.

- Matchmaking system revamped: you can now choose between Standard Mode (unranked) and the new Ranked Mode.
- Standard Mode: lower-stakes play with no party size or skill spread restrictions, and the matchmaker accounts for your experience with the hero you pick.
- Ranked Mode: competitive queue against similarly-skilled players with seasonal rank progression.
- Updated ranks and badges: each Rank now has 6 Subranks (I - VI), from Obscurus (uncalibrated) up through Eternus.
- Ranked eligibility: 60 Standard Mode wins required to queue, 15 wins on a hero to play it in Ranked, and at least 3 unlocked heroes for a valid roster.
- Season start includes an 8-game calibration phase with a soft reset of prior Rank; calibration exits at a max Rank of Oracle VI and cannot be played in a party.
- Ranked only allows solo or duo parties, with duos limited to 1 Rank apart (Eternus players must be within 3 Subranks of another Eternus player).
- Added a Ranked Hub in the hideout with season info, global leaderboards, Rank history, and a commemorative item for your season's highest rank.
- Rank Points: wins/losses grant roughly +/- 250 points, 1000 points per Subrank promotion (2000 for the final Subrank before a new Rank), with dynamic daily thresholds at Eternus.
- Rank loss protection: 5 games of protection at a full Rank boundary and 2 games at a Subrank boundary.
- Hero selection now happens before game formation so the matchmaker can build balanced team compositions while honoring hero preferences; matchmaker composition logic improved.
- Added the ability to change your hero during the new pre-game phase.
- Ranked Mode: total heroes banned per game increased from 2 to 3, and the ban algorithm was improved.
- You cannot queue for Ranked with any active sanctions on your account (low priority, comms bans, etc.).
- Abandons after 5 minutes: the leaver receives penalties and their party takes a loss, teammates have the game voided and are safe to leave (a win still counts if they stay and win), and if the whole team leaves the match ends as a win for the opposing team.
- If a player on the non-abandoning team then abandons, they are penalized the same way and the abandon rules apply to that team as well; remaining players take no loss and only get a win by finishing and winning.
- Leaver penalties start with queue timeouts and escalate to increasing amounts of low priority games.
- Leaderboard requirements: global leaderboard 30-day game count raised from 50 to 75, hero leaderboard 30-day game count raised from 20 to 30, plus a new 100 lifetime wins requirement on that hero.
- Rollout note: the new system is live now, but queue times, match quality and team composition quality will need time to stabilize and bugs are expected.
